Tax benefits stem from the structure of the Self-Insured Medical Reimbursement Plan, which uses pre-tax funding. Employers benefit from reduced FICA taxes, while employees only realize tax advantages if they actively participate in the plan and earn the reimbursement after-tax. Without participation, any reimbursement becomes taxable, negating the financial benefit.

Brokers & Carriers
What happens if there are legislative changes or future determinations by ruling changes?
Although there are constant changes in legislation, we do not foresee changes to this program. Prodigy’s ERISA attorney and other attorneys are constantly monitoring this and will notify everyone promptly if changes occur.
Who decides where the tax savings must be spent?
It is the sole discretion of the employee participant as to how the Wellness Reserve is spent.
Employers
Are there participation requirements under the program?
Yes. There are participation requirements. The participating employee must complete 100 points worth of activities annually. This can be accomplished in as little as 4 activities.

Can I cancel this program at any time?
No. Because you are pre-taxing the wellness program under a Section “125” Cafeteria program, the IRS has certain rules that must be followed such as; you cannot make any changes to the program until “Open Enrollment” each year unless there is a qualifying event. An IRS approved qualifying event allows you to make changes during the plan year that are consistent with the event. Your Prodigy Wellness advisor will explain this upon enrollment.
Are my year-end taxes affected?
Most Plan Participants do not see a negative impact on their taxes.
Is this a legal program?
Yes. The program complies with all current regulations.
Employees
Does this program affect my Social Security?
The program has a minimal effect on Social Security the closer one gets to retirement age.
Can a gym membership be purchased with the Wellness Reserve?
No. A gym membership is a taxable benefit under the rules of this program.
What happens if I miss a day’s pay? Will I have to pay for the benefits out of my take home pay?
Prodigy Benefit Management calculates your Wellness Reserve at 95% of your annual income. Therefore, if you should miss a couple of days during the year, there should be enough in reserve to pay the premium amounts without affecting your take home pay.
Can benefits be obtained on my spouse and dependents?
Yes.
What effect will this have on my take home pay?
Net take home pay will be the same, or slightly higher.
